(30 months – 42 months)
At around 2.5 years, children will transition into our Rising 3s Room. All children receive individual settling-in sessions with their Key Person to help them feel safe, confident, and secure within their new environment and routines.
In our Rising 3s Room, we provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where children are supported to grow in confidence, independence, and self-belief. This stage of development is a significant time for children as they begin developing the personal, social, and communication skills that prepare them for Preschool and beyond.
Through a balance of play-based learning, meaningful interactions, and child-led exploration, we encourage children to become increasingly independent in their personal care routines, decision-making, and everyday tasks. A strong focus is placed on supporting toilet training, self-care skills, and emotional regulation, helping children to understand their feelings, manage emotions, and build positive relationships with others.
Communication and language development remain at the heart of our practice. Children are encouraged to express themselves, join in with songs and stories, develop conversation skills, and build confidence when speaking within groups. Early mathematical development is introduced through practical, hands-on experiences where children begin reciting numbers, counting objects, recognising numerals, and exploring simple mathematical concepts through play.
Mark-making opportunities are carefully woven throughout the environment to encourage children to experiment with early writing, drawing, creativity, and self-expression. Through open-ended resources and exploratory play, children are supported to develop curiosity, resilience, and problem-solving skills while learning through their own interests and ideas.
By creating a calm, engaging, and supportive environment, we help children develop the confidence, independence, and emotional foundations they need as they prepare for their transition into Preschool.
“In Rising 3s, we focus on helping children become more independent and confident in their everyday skills. We support toilet training, emotional regulation, communication, and early maths and mark making through fun, meaningful play experiences. We love messy play, stories, singing, outdoor learning, and giving children opportunities to explore and discover at their own pace.” – The Rising 3s Team
- Our indoor environment is organised into carefully planned areas that encourage children to independently access resources, make choices, and engage in a wide variety of learning experiences. Children are supported through a balance of child-led play and adult-guided activities tailored to their interests and developmental needs.
- Children benefit from free-flow access to the outdoor classroom where they can explore, investigate, and develop physical skills in a stimulating outdoor environment. Outdoor learning encourages confidence, communication, imaginative play, and hands-on discovery through open-ended resources and experiences.
- Practitioners work closely with families to support toilet training and personal care routines, ensuring consistency and encouragement throughout this important stage of development. Children are supported with patience, reassurance, and praise as they gain confidence in managing their own needs and routines independently
Our Rising 3s Room comprises two large, bright learning areas leading directly onto a spacious outdoor classroom, totalling over 85 square metres of learning space. The environment is thoughtfully designed with high ceilings, air conditioning, and inviting spaces that encourage exploration, creativity, and independence both indoors and outdoors.
