🌱 Our Curriculum at Lake View Nursery
Nurturing curiosity, confidence and readiness for life
At Lake View Nursery, we believe every child deserves a rich and purposeful early education. Our bespoke curriculum is designed to provide children with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to thrive, not just in school, but for life.
Rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and supported by Development Matters and Birth to 5 Matters, our curriculum reflects the unique needs of our children, families, and local Herefordshire community.
📚 What Makes Our Curriculum Special?
- Intentional and Progressive:
Every room has clear ambitions tailored to children’s ages and stages, with planned progression as they grow. From forming secure attachments in the Baby Room to becoming confident, school-ready learners in Preschool, we’re with them every step of the way. - Locally Informed:
Our curriculum responds to local challenges like higher rates of childhood obesity and tooth decay by promoting healthy habits, nutrition education, and physical development daily. - Fully Inclusive:
We ensure every child, including those with additional needs, has access to the curriculum through adaptive teaching, sensory spaces, visual support, and strong family partnerships.
🧠How We Deliver Our Curriculum
We use three layers of provision to ensure learning is consistent, responsive, and meaningful:
- Continuous Provision – Carefully designed indoor and outdoor spaces that encourage exploration, independence, and curiosity.
- Enhanced Provision – Weekly planned activities based on children’s interests and developmental next steps.
- Targeted Provision – Focused small-group work and termly planning to address identified needs and ensure all children make progress.
đź“– Core Books and a Love of Reading
We place a strong emphasis on storytelling and literacy. Each room features a set of carefully selected core books that support language development, emotional growth, and school readiness. These books are regularly revisited and available in our family lending library to continue learning at home.
🛡️ Safeguarding Through the Curriculum
Children learn how to stay safe through:
- Supported risk-taking (e.g. Forest School)
- Road safety, sun safety, and healthy routines
- Conflict resolution and emotional literacy

You can see the curriculum journey displayed on the wall in the corridor, alongside our Nursery Intent.
Each classroom has its own display showing what the curriculum looks like in that room, along with the specific ambitions for the children in that age group.
If you’d like to understand more about how this supports your child’s development or how they’re being prepared for their next step, please speak to your child’s key person; they’ll be happy to share more with you.
